Students celebrate Love your Body Day

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, CCA’s Body Aloud club held their fourth annual Love Your Body Day. The event, which took place at lunch in the quad, featured free hugs, a “yay scale,” and nine teachers who volunteered to share their stories of body image-related insecurities, and how they overcame them.

From “Big Butt Bradley” Spilkin to the “cartilage-blessed” Unwin, all teachers seemed to have their fair share of adolescent anxieties. “Just surround yourself with people who care about you as a person and don’t worry about what others have to say,” said Mr. Benattia.

Danica Hoeprich, a senior and Vice President of the Head of Presentations Committee for Body Aloud, believes that the club is essential to the diverse atmosphere of CCA. “Our school is already so different; we emphasize individualism so much here that it makes sense we would have something like [Body Aloud],” she said.

But Hoeprich thinks that Body Aloud is much more than just a school club. “We live in southern California, and high school is already hard enough with the pressure that the media presents. It’s not realistic,” she said after the event had ended. “I think it’s very important to have someone on campus calling [the media] out.”

Instead, Hoeprich sees beauty in a less traditional and far healthier light. “Beauty is found within the differences we all possess. That’s what’s beautiful.”

Body Aloud, led by senior Elle Masri, meets every Monday at lunch in F207, but it is limited to those who apply. Body Aloud welcomes all applicants, regardless of age, gender, or size.
